Risks and Complications

Home » General Surgery » Risks and Complications

A general surgical procedure involves the potential risk for complications after the surgery. These may include the following:

  • Adverse reaction to anesthesia
  • Pneumonia
  • Internal bleeding
  • Blood clots
  • Infections
  • Cardiac events

Due to the risks involved, surgery is usually chosen when treatment entails the correction of life-threatening conditions or improvement in quality of daily life.

Surgery often brings quicker relief from many conditions but the risks involved depend upon many factors including the surgical team’s previous experience, patient’s medical status and the level of technological advancement of the procedure.
